Ryan Estep's Artist Statement

Break

        The radio ignites, air begins to warm and the day breaks in two. He sits
next to me, lights a cigarette and takes a long sigh that only inhales. I am a
visitor now and I can feel it as I adjust my seatbelt.   He talks.

    I know the name of his wife, the size of his shoes and the nightmares of
his father. But before he can exhale, before he can cough, before he begins to
eat we are both completely still and I can feel a distance pooling in the small of
my back.
