2009 MFA Artist: Molly Jo Burke

Molly Jo Burke's Artist Statement

I am interested in the containments of social insects, seeds and related specimens, through cataloging, collections and scientific research.
I make work that references these areas to highlight the oddity of our acts of containment and how we display items that we consider precious or in need of safe and sterile keeping.

I also create forms that reference the microscopic on a macro level. These forms are references to the scientific realm of cellular forms and the intricacies that occur in these systems that are both beautiful and dangerous at the same time.
