Derek Reese's Artist Statement
I utilize objects and the representation of objects in my work to reach a better understanding of myself. These objects become personal artifacts. They act either as conduits for meaning, making and fodder for a creative process, or at other times as literal stand-ins for myself, either my image, the idea of me, me-ness, or often times, simply the way my body co-exists with other bodies or objects in space. The way my body coexists with your body perhaps.
